Biden visits East Asian capitals in a region recently heated by U.S. coolness

The White House announced that Vice President Joseph Biden would visit Japan, China and South Korea in December. Biden’s visit marks the first visit by senior U.S. leader to the volatile region since China, Japan and South Korea dramatically escalated their territorial disputes. The Pacific powers have threatened the use of force on a weekly basis.
