Chen discloses ‘defensive’ anti-carrier DF-21D, calls on U.S. to reduce defense spending

People’s Liberation Army Gen. Chen Bingde, chief of the general staff, disclosed last week for the first time that China is developing a new aircraft carrier-killing anti-ship ballistic missile, the DF-21D, although he played down its development.

Chen said during a press conference in Beijing with visiting Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen that the missile is “still under research-and-development process. It is not equipped yet.”
