Hours before the scheduled time to start, the Chinese military authorities suddenly canceled a major naval exercise in a sensitive area at the entrance to the Bohai region near Beijing. The Liaoning Maritime Bureau had issued numerous public announcement warnings to all vessels to steer clear of the designed area for a large naval exercise near the south tip of the Eastern Liaoning Peninsula.
