Illegal Chinese fishing in other nations’ territorial or EEZ regions have become a major international issue in recent years. Almost all of China’s latest run-ins with many of its neighbors — Russia, North and South Koreas, Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines, to name a few — have been triggered by clashes between Chinese fishing vessels illegally operating in others’ waters and these coastal nations’ maritime authorities.
