Seoul pushing for international forum to gain leverage in Northeast deadlocks

Flag of South KoreaSEOUL — South Korea will organize a Seoul-hosted international forum to boost cooperation in Northeast Asia which is mired in longstanding territorial and historical disputes, a senior government official said. The consultant body to be named “Seoul Forum” would be designed to ease regional rivalry attributable to Japan’s wartime past and China’s recent flexing of its military muscle, a Foreign Ministry official said.
