Warm words in Beijing by visiting Israeli defense minister raise eyebrows

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak meets with China's Defense Minister General Liang Guanglie on June 13.

 

U.S. intelligence agencies are focusing on new ties between the Israeli and Chinese militaries following a visit by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to China.

Barak told reporters in Beijing June 14 that he met with Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Liang Guanglie and Gen. Chen Bingde, the chief of staff.

“In all of our meetings, we looked for ways with people in uniforms to consolidate the relationship between our defense establishments with a variety of common interests, from fighting terrorism to exchanging visits of soldiers and officers. I invited both the defense minister and chief of general staff to visit Israel,” he said.
